2006

2006 was my first year without the large tree. I had also eliminated the standees. I picked up some topiary frames from Disneyshopping.com and I filled them with garland and covered them with lights. It was a huge job. First, the filling with garland sounds much easier that it was. Some places in the topiaries were very small and pulling the garland through those areas was challenging. The gaps in the topiary cages were small as well and did not easily allow my hands to get in and arrange the garland. Second, simply wrapping the cages in lights proved to be unsatisfactory and each individual light needed to be zip tied in place!!! Believe it or not, the Christmas tree in the far left is sitting in the exact same place the large tree used to occupy. It looks so small!

Donald and Goofy. Donald took about 700 mini-lights and Goofy took about 800 They turned out the best though.

Mickey and Minnie did not turn out so well. Since much of them is Black, I had a hard time deciding how to light them. I settled on using a deep purple light that really didn’t work well. I’ll keep trying to figure out what I want to do with these two.

I wasn’t so thrilled with Pluto either. First, I had a hard time finding yellow lights when I had started out, so I used orange. They don’t look as good. Secondly, I got much better at wrapping those lights after Pluto and the subsequent topiaries light up much better. He’ll probably be redone for 2007.
