2002

Here you can see the remnants of my dream to convert the entire front yard into a scene. In my first year I built large props out of plywood. A Santa, (motorized at the waist) A fireplace, and a door with a small motorized boy peeking at the Santa placing gifts under the tree. On the far left you can see the large tree that I had the pleasure of wrapping for four years. (City removed it.) The NOEL sign you see on the roof of my house has been a fixture since I was a teenager (a long time ago) It’s made of plywood and outlined with mini-lights. The light surrounding my yard have a great story. Upon building my display, one of my neighbors commented that I should erect a barricade to keep people from intruding on the lawn. Sounded like a good idea. I used some old wooden lollipops left over from years ago to hold up icicle lights. Worked great, but looked lousy. The wooden lollipops kept breaking and the icicles always look unkempt.

Here’s a close-up of the scene. Santa placing the gifts under the tree. The small boy peering out the door at him. The props were pretty much life-sized and I got into quite an argument with my wife, who did not what her house covered up. Santa and the boy were motorized with barbeque rotisserie motors. Santa bent over the place his gifts and the boy peered out and retreated behind the door.
