Welcome. Let me tell you a bit about myself and my crazy hobby. In July 2002, I moved my small family into a larger home. (anticipating a larger family) The house that we bought was on a street that the people of Stanislaus County call “Christmas Tree Lane.”
Now, I knew full well what I was getting into. I had grand plans. When I was a child there was a guy who lived near us who went all out for Christmas decoration. When he was finished, you couldn’t see his house. Instead, he had transformed his front yard into a Winter Wonderland. Replete with Santa and Elves frolicking about a snowy backdrop. I wanted to do something like that.
As with Christmases past, I tempered my plans with a more tasteful décor which usually ended up being a crowd pleaser, year after year. I was very happy just fine tuning my display from year to year. Nothing real radical.
Then in December 2006, I was told to go look at a man’s display in Modesto. I was told that it was an amazing sight. I drove there with my family expecting something spectacular. Instead, what I found was three houses with a simple few strings of blinking lights running across their eaves and about 3 trees wrapped to about 7 feet with lights. (I was used to wrapping the large tree that used to be in front of my house up to 14 feet creating a beacon that could be easily seen from the far end of the well lit Christmas Tree Lane!) The sign on the window of one of the houses said to tune my radio to a particular station. Once done magic occurred. The seemingly random blinking lights began to pulsate to Christmas music! It was a revelation! I sat transfixed through about 3 or 4 songs trying to figure out just what this guy did to create such a display. All at once my mind began to swim with the possibilities of what could be done with this technology and, more importantly, how it would relate to my Christmas Display. There you have it the birth of a new chapter in my Christmas Decoration. Come see what I’m planning.
